More than 5.5 million people downloaded the FIFA 15 demo, representing a record for any EA Sports demo ever released, Electronic Arts announced today. The 5.5 million figure represents the number of people who have played the demo on one or more of the following platforms: PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. The FIFA 15 demo is still available to download, so the figure could climb even higher.

The game is already the best-selling sports video game in history, with well over 100 million copies sold since 1993. 

"We believe we have built a game in FIFA 15 that delivers the most immersive and responsive gameplay experience ever in the FIFA franchise, and we can't wait for the millions of fans to start their season and experience all of the innovations," EA Sports executive David Rutter said in a statement.

Versions of FIFA 15 for Wii, 3DS, and PlayStation Vita are also in the works, and will be released later on.

EA also creates other blockbuster franchises including "Madden NFL," "The Sims," "Battlefield" and "Dragon Age." The company grossed more than $3.6 billion in revenue in fiscal year 2014.
